Circa 1910 8" Emerson 11644 Ornate Base Desk Fan Original Condition

From the Prairie House Collection, assembled by a dedicated fan enthusiast and collector, comes this circa 1910 8" Emerson Type 11644 Ornate Base Desk Fan in original condition. This model has become highly desirable among collectors due to its unique design, exceptional craftsmanship, rarity, and historical significance as Emerson's second 8" desk fan model. This example is all original. The motor housing has a few brush touch-ups, but overall, the black japanned finish looks really nice and with a cleaning and waxing will display the beautiful iconic Emerson finish.  The ornate base also retains a nice, japanned finish.  While there are a couple of areas where the finish is beginning to crack, it should still display and look equally as good when cleaned and waxed. The brass blade and cage have been cleaned and polished at some point during the fan's life and have mellowed to a subtle brass patina. The head wire and power cord have been replaced at some point and are in good condition.  The fan operates smoothly on its one intended speed at 104V AC.  The neck has a very slight wobble and possibly missing an insulator.   The switch insulator is broken as seen in photos.  Additionally, the switch is tight when sliding between the on and off positions, and while the switch body is missing a piece, it does not affect the operation of the fan.  The Emerson Type 11644 has become increasingly difficult to find with a nice original finish. This example offers a great opportunity to service and address a few minor issues and bring out the beauty of its original finish.
