Rare Circa 1903 16" Emerson Type 1220 Trunnion Mount Restored Desk Fan

Circa 1903–1905 16" Emerson Type 1220 Restored Trunnion Mounted Desk Fan. The Type 1220 represents an important period in Emerson's early fan production, preceding the company's first oscillating models and showcasing the substantial construction and ornate styling of early Emerson fans. This rare and highly desirable example has been beautifully restored and features Emerson's impressive 16" configuration with a large, ornate pancake-motor and ornate base. The fan features a gorgeous deep black finish that beautifully highlights the elaborate cast iron ribbed base and detailed motor. The four-wing brass Parker blade and highly desirable open ring cage have been polished to a brilliant shine and they beautifully complement the shiny black finish. This example also features a centrifugal start switch that automatically engages the starting circuit when the fan is turned on and disengages as the motor comes up to speed.  A distinct click may be heard as the centrifugal switch engages and disengages during startup and shutdown; this is normal operation.  The speed switch shows a crack which has been repaired perfectly.  Note: when operating a centrifugal start switch fan, I always suggest stsrting on high and then backing down to slow.  This ensures the centrifugal start switches open completely and the fan gets up to speed. The power cord and head wire have been updated at time of restoration. The fan runs perfectly on two distinct speeds when supplied with its tagged voltage of 110 volts.  A spectacular addition to an Emerson or early electric fan collection!
