Circa 1931 10" Westinghouse Debon-Air Oscillating Desk Fan.  The design trends of the 1930s inspired the creation of this beautiful fan designed by Richard H. Jordan of Springfield Massachusetts, Donald L. Hadley of Mansfield Ohio, and Donald R. Doi-inee of Pittsburgh Pa as designers for the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company.  Highly influenced by both the aftermath of the Art Deco movement and the economic challenges of the Great Depression, here are some key aspects of design during that era which are potently on display in this design. The earlier part of the 1930s retained elements of Art Deco, characterized by geometric shapes, bold lines, and symmetry. This style exuded luxury and modernity. The use of materials like chrome, stainless steel, and glass became more prevalent. These materials contributed to a sleek and modern aesthetic. The Bauhaus movement, originating in the late 1910s and early 1920s, continued to influence design in the 1930s. Its emphasis on functionality, simplicity, and the use of modern materials left a lasting impact in design history.

Recently acquired from an astute private collection, we are pleased to present this wonderful example of design history.  This example is completely original with the exception of the power cord that was in poor condition and for safety was upgraded using our OTR+W period correct cloth covered cord.  In my 28 years of collecting fans, this is the nicest, most complete, and original example of this fan I have had the opportunity to acquire.  Fan operates as designed on 2 distinct speeds.  Oscillation can be engaged and disengaged via a small knob atop the gearbox.  Original head wire from the base to motor is still intact and in great condition for its age.  An iconic piece of design history that is both visually appealing and functional.  Fan can also be wall mounted if desired utilizing the original base plate containing instructions on this type of installation.  We have cleaned and serviced the fan for daily use if desired.  Excellent opportunity to own a "Top Shelf" example of Westinghouse's Debon-Air.
