Circa 1900 Emerson PI241 fixed mount 12" Desk Fan. This Very Rare "Stick or Fixed Mount" Early PI-241 Emerson.  The original finish is well preserved on this example though showing some signs of wear from the past 126 years.  When found the motor was not operating to specifications and we had the stator rewound.  This very unique fan is truly a collector grade especially when it comes to operation.  To correctly operate the fan, the switch lever requires sliding to the far right to start and immediately upon rotation,  the lever is moved back to the left for its "run" circuit.  The switch shows some signs of repairs but the have been very well reinforced on the top and the switch body appears solid.  The highly desirable large open ring guard shows a beautiful patina and no signs of breaks or repairs.  Examples of this model in this condition are rare and becoming increasingly harder to find and acquire.  The 1901 Emerson Catalog references this as the "Special Model" and the prior design (tripod) named "Standard Model".  With the addition of its  "Special" model, Emerson placed on the market more sizes, types, and styles of fans than any manufacturer before (1901).  A design feature that carried over to this "Special" model from the "Standard" is Emersons manual starting position on the switch.  Fan operates flawlessly!!!  We have disassembled and completely serviced this fan removing all old oil and grease replacing with fresh lubrication.  Beautiful example that is ideal for a serious fan collector.
