Super RARE Menominee Sidegear Oscillator. This is one of about 6 known to have survived the last 100 plus years.
From the "Museum Collection of Steve Cunningham" we are pleased to present this very rare and possibly once in a lifetime acquisition opportunity. Found by Steve Cunningham in the early years of fan collecting this fan went to Paul Graves for a mechanical overhaul. Upon completion, this example was placed on display in the AFCA Museum (ID Tag #675). We believe the fan to still retain its original finish however the gearbox housing looks as though it was refinished at some point and has since received a few small chips. Brass has been professionally polished and lacquered displaying a beautiful rich shine. The design of the gear mechanism is incredible and a fan that certainly sets itself apart from all others. Front motor housing features a roller ball balance wheel, this wheel rides on a flat horizontal surface keeping the fans head from bobbing during the oscillation sweep. Original head wire is still present and in great condition. Fan is designed for operation on 4 speeds, we noted the following speed sequence, High, Medium, Low & High. Having seen the same speed sequence in other Menominee fans of the period, it could be a result of insulation breakdown within the choke coil. Exceptional example of an early mechanical oscillator design.
