This is a very rare, all-original, circa 1918 ECK 12” Hurricane stationary desk fan with patented Ming Blade. With it's distinctive style cast iron base and unique designed brass blade it is must have for a collector! This stationary model is rarer than the oscillating version making it a must have for a collection. The original finish is in great condition and displays a beautiful shine - with minor signs of wear on the base due to its 105+ years of use. The blade appears to have been polished at some point and started to develop some patina. Guard appears to have never been cleaned or polished displaying a dark rich patina, the ECK badge looks like it was lighty polished and has started to develop patina consistent with the blade. The fan operates smoothly on three distinct speeds as originally designed. This fan has been carefully cleaned and serviced. The power cord is in good condition, and the head wire has been replaced with our superior OTR+W USA made wire.
ECK Hurricanes are highly desirable among collectors. The exclusive Ming fan blade was only produced during 1917 and 1918. Elevate your space with this rare piece of history.
The following was posted by Loren Haroldsen on the Antique Fan Collectors website:
"The term Ming comes from no HUM, the HUM is missing from Humming, leaving just ming. The blades were actually designed by a New Yorker in 1912 for an airplane propeller. Eck either bought or leased the rights in 1912 or 1913. There was a modification for the new ones out in 17 I suspect."
