Circa 1910 12" Century Sidegear Oscillating Desk Fan. Very Rare And Highly Desirable, This Fan Is A Mechanical Masterpiece! Fan Is Powered By Century's S-4 Centrifugal Switch Cast Iron Motor. To Make This Design Oscillate Century Utilized 2 Gearboxes With A Grand Total Of 16 Gears. There are so many aspects of this design to appreciate both while sitting still and in operation. The open frame cast iron motor displays the intricate details inside the split phase motor. This example has been refinished and my estimation was this was done roughly 30 years ago. The black finish has started to develop its own character and very closely resembles the original Century paint. Gearbox covers were originally blued, these appear to have been slighlty polished at time of refinishing displaying a unique pattern. This motor has been rewound in the past and like any artist each have their own style. Showing the stator to Paul Graves, he identified it as the work of Bud Stasha. Bud was connected in the Antique Fan community as a go-to motor winder in the early years of collecting. When It Comes To Fan And Mechanical Design This Is Top Of The Class. Fan Is Controlled Via A 5 position Speed Slide Switch In The Base. We have installed a new choke coil yet the fan operates on 2 distinct speeds (high and low). Amazing Fan!
