"Survivor" Circa 1900 Emerson PI241 fixed mount 12" Desk Fan. This Very Rare "Stick or Fixed Mount" Example Was recently acquired from a Lancaster County PA. pickers estate. As part of this collection, the fan sat on display coated in its "As found" debris which protected the original finish. Examples of this model in this condition are rare and becoming increasingly harder to find and acquire. The 1901 Emerson Catalog references this as the "Special Model" and the prior design (tripod) named "Standard Model". With the addition of its "Special" model, Emerson placed on the market more sizes, types, and styles of fans than any manufacturer before (1901). A design feature that carried over to this "Special" model from the "Standard" is Emersons manual starting position on the switch. Starting the fan requires the switch to be placed in the far right position until reaching operational speed, then sliding the lever back to your left for "run" position. Designation of each location was somtimes noted above the switch lever opening, this example does not seem to have any sign of lever placement for "start" or "run". Fan operates flawlessly!!! Start position on this example is very quiet and when running, the fan is super smooth and moves a great deal of air. Original blade, cage, and brass components have a beautiful 123 year patina. Guard features the large open ring design, a more desirable feature. We have disassembled and completely serviced this fan removing all old oil and grease replacing with fresh lubrication. Because this example is in such amazing original condition, we chose to leave the original headwire intact (very rare to find them in this condition). An amazing example that is ideal for a purist original condition collector.
