Ca. 1900 Manhattan #3 Battery Operated DC Desk Fan. This is an example of how desk fans have evolved throughout time. This Manhattan #3 leaves nothing to the imagination of how this little motor works. The exposed field coil combined with the exposed commutator and flat stock brushes looks almost like a science experiment. To my knowledge this fan is all original and has survived the test of time pretty well. The brass blade has some wrinkles in the wings and would need to be balanced as well. This fan runs backwards which is a simple adjustment of the wiring to the brushes from the field. With a little adjustments this will be a really nice example of an early battery fan.
